Day Trip to Berkeley

Berkeley is a fun place for all ages.  I pulled out a few of my favorites spots and highlighted their special events for this weekend.  Why not take a day trip with the kids?

Ivy & Bean Musical at Freight & Salvage 11AM & 2PM.
I just took my first-grade daughter to see this show last weekend and it was adorable.  I was laughing the whole time and we were all signing the songs afterward.  Come meet quiet Ivy, who has amazing ideas, and outgoing Bean, who loves to put ideas into action. The mischievous heroines of the award-winning Ivy + Bean stories by local author Annie Barrows will be plotting their exploits onstage in this world premiere musical by Scott Elmegreen. Based on the New York Times bestselling series.

 The Bubble Lady at Studio Grow .  Everyone likes bubbles!  Studio Grow is an indoor play space for kids 0-6.  They hold Saturday shows, and this Saturday your kids can explore bubbles of all sizes with Rebecca Nile, the Bubble Lady.  The show is at 11AM.

The Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California, Berkeley. Now this is a cool place.  The current exhibit, which started Jan. 19 and runs through May 5th, is Run, Jump, Fly & Spin, "Safely scale a canyon wall, snowboard down a mountain, and fly through the stars on a 'flycycle.' Feel the laws of motion in action as you embark on an active science adventure."  They also have an Open Make area for creating toys and games, a Planetarium, and 3-D Theater.

University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley, which houses one of the most diverse collections of plants in the US. The Botanical Gardens at Berkeley focuses on drought tolerant Australian and Mediterranean plant families, which can be quirky looking (ie.entertaining to kids).  Right now there are two newts in the Japanese pond which are actively courting, and would be fun to watch after running around amongst the plants.
